Branding Your Company

by Brynne Peters

With each and every business,  large and small, it is always important to keep marketing directives in line with the brand of the company.  Whether it is internal or external communication,  the branding must be consistent and concise. Below are a few pieces of advice when embarking on any branding campaign:
  • The Brand and Branding are two very different concepts. The brand is what exists in the consumer's mind. It is what the consumer feels or associates with your company or product. Branding is what generates and influences the feelings and associations felt about your brand.
  • Most people think they are successful when their brand has high awareness. What your brand should be is relevancy, uniqueness and distinction. Having these factors will in turn create your awareness. You should not create the awareness, but the factors that contribute to it.
  • Before any branding begins, identify your goals and audience. What do you want your branding to accomplish and who do you want to target. You cannot begin a successful branding campaign until you have a plan of action. You never want to create a campaign that your product cannot fulfill.
  • KISS. Keep it simple stupid. Don't try too hard to brand an idea. Sometimes the best ideas are the simplest. Look at your product through the eyes of your consumer and speak to what they find important and relevant. Read your reviews, speak to retailers and become a consumer yourself.
  • It is a sprint, not a marathon. Before you board the branding bus, make sure to understand that success is not immediate nor repetitive. You will constantly have to work to keep your brand relevant, consistent, and distinct.
With a clear plan of action and direction, every business can achieve a successful branding campaign. Just remember to look at the big picture while focusing on the little details.
