E-Mail Marketing DOs and DON'Ts

by Sarah Freeman

eMail marketing programs have become a staple in business’ and organizations’ drip marketing programs… but has also become extremely easy to take a useful and cost-efficient medium from hero to zero!  If you find yourself falling into some of these DON’Ts, consider the ways Central States Media can get you back on the right track with our superior e-mail marketing software!

DON’T #1 – Don’t send e-mails simply to be sending e-mails.  Your marketing plan may have you on a weekly e-mail schedule… but what if you have nothing relevant to say?  If you find you are struggling for content, spread your e-mails out more often so that when users see your e-mail, they know it will be for good reason.

DON’T #2 – Don’t send e-mails out that are content-only.  This takes away the interactivity of your e-mail and your ultimate goal – conversions!  Always make sure users have a way to click to get more information, either from your website or from a person directly.

DON’T #3 – Don’t send HTML e-mails only… use text too!  Mobile users are growing more every day.  With the heavy use of Smart Phones, it is vital to give users as many viewing options as possible, otherwise your message is lost on potentially interested prospects.

DON’T #4 – Don’t use a template that everyone has seen and/or used.  Constant Contact and other popular masse-mail programs do make it easy for you to use standard templates… but they usually don’t match up with the look and feel of your holistic brand.  If you can, create a template that uses the framework of your brand strategy.

DON’T #5 – Don’t ignore your tracking reports.  Simply sending out e-mails on your scheduled plan will not cut it.  How do you know it’s working?  You must take the necessary time to analyze your tracking reports.  From deliverability to forwarded e-mails, knowledge takes the guesswork out of effectiveness!
